Gulfspill Version 2.0: a software package for oil spills in the Arabian Gulf
نویسندگان
چکیده
A software package is described for the prediction of the movement and fate of oil spills in the Arabian Gulf. The package is designed to run on a PC operating under Windows and has user-friendly graphical interfaces for model input and for examination of the output. The package contains several optional programs: a simple trajectory model, as well as models for large-scale spills that encompass a significant area of the water body and for smaller spills that remain localized in an arbitrarily small sub-region. The models are based on a three-dimensional hydrodynamical model of the Arabian Gulf that has been tested and calibrated to a high degree of accuracy. The fate of the oil encompasses the processes of evaporation, emulsification, dispersion by wave action into the water column, beaching on the coasts (and possible re-entry into the water body) and mechanical spreading. Examples are shown to illustrate typical input and output screens and to demonstrate the accuracy of the model. 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

Operational Satellite Monitoring and Detection for Oil Spil in Offshore of United Arab Emirates
Many satellite-borne image data have been acquired in the Arabian Gulf since the mid 80’s by different space agencies and have demonstrated oil spill related features at sea. Severe oil spills were caused occasionally by accidental or deliberate oil sludge dumping from passing ships. Serious damage to fishery, water desalination plants and natural habitats are concerned. The work done is the fi...
متن کاملAssessment of Damages to Commercial Fisheries and Marine Environment of Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, Resulting from the Seki Oil Spill of March 1994: A Case Study
Historically, about half the oil transported through the global marine environment has come through the Arabian Gulf and the annual input of oil to the gulf’s marine environment is skewed toward sources connected with marine transport. As a case study, we assess the damages from an oil spill caused by a collision between the crude oil tankers Baynuna and the Seki on 30 March 1994. The collision...

Rajaee port in Bandar Abbas is one of the important-oil transport hubs in Persian Gulf and any oil spill incidents can result in pollution, which impact on human habitats and the marine environment. Oil spill trajectory modeling is a tool which applied to increase the knowledge about oil spill fate. The GNOME model is a physical model which indicates the oil spill movements on sea water and pot...

متن کاملDistribution of Heavy Metals Associated with Petroleum in the Northern Persian Gulf: Bushehr and Nayband Bay Area
Parts of oil spills reach Iranian coastline along the Persian Gulf in the form of tar balls and scattered oilpatches. There are many published reports regarding oil spills reaching northern coasts of the Persian Gulf, but none report on the content of heavy metals associated with petroleum in sediments and plants ofcontaminated areas. This research was conducted to determine and map petroleum- r...
